Much like youself I spotted these nice looking insect this summer on my lilies in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia for the first time. After a little research finding out what they really were and the distruction they can do on the lilies they became not so nice to have in the garden. Still nice looking but deadly. Hopefully they have been eradicated as I do not need them, nor does anyone. They probably do have a use as everything does - so far I have not found one.
